With amazing versatility Ann Jacobs creates landscapes, still life studies, abstractions, and figurative compositions. Her mediums are watercolors, acrylics, collage, portals, and dyes on silk. Her Asian Hawaiian & Southern Texas heritage, as well as her California lifestyle influence her images. Travels to costal locales provide her with fresh images and renews her spirit.

Artist's Statement

1983 - "If you don't do it by the time you are forty you won't ever do it."  I enrolled in our local community college, where I then attended one art class a semester, this was while working with middle-school learning disabled children and raising 3 children. I have found a new home.

2000 - In order to keep my soul from becoming dark and then brooding about the human condition, I've found myself in middle age, realizing that joy can be found here on earth. Using large brushes, bright primary colors and primitive childlike images on silk scarves, jackets, canvas and on watercolor paper, I found releases for my angst. Sometimes political statements in darker hues will be found in my art. In the future, collage (cutting and pasting) which is really my passion, will become more prevalent. I am really a kindergartner at heart!

2005 - Now past middle age, using found objects, my work has taken on a new dimension. Wooden boxes with clay figurines, coins, mirrors and usually, something that is suspended, have become my new projects. As an artist and a member of the ARTDIVAS, The Tangram project was especially challenging. Using an electric saw on peg board and plywood, plus an assortment of nails and other adhesives has introduced me into another world of creating art.

I chose the image of the Rooster for the Tangram, it is my birthday sign. 2005 in the Asian calendar is the "Year of the Rooster", I have turned sixty.

In addition to painting, Ann is an executive board member of several art organizations. She has had several one man shows, curates exhibits and has been a juror. She is a jazz enthusiast and can often be found in jazz clubs sketching the musicians as well as the audience.
